RYA Dinghy Instructor

Dinghy Instructor Training (£360)

Snettisham Beach Sailing Club are keen to support the development of sailors within the club and support our assistant instructors and other suitably experienced sailors to train as Dinghy Instructors.  The club runs training sessions for those working towards training as an instructor and our Senior Instructors can advise or readiness for the course.

To consider training as an RYA Dinghy Instructor you need to be an experienced sailor who is able to sail in strong winds.  There is a Pre-Assessment carried out prior to starting the Dinghy Instructor course to assess your personal sailing skill.  This must be completed within one year prior to starting the Dinghy Instructor course.  Here is a link to more information about the Pre-assessment: Dinghy-Pre-Entry (rya.org.uk) there are a number of pre-requisites that need to be met prior to the training:

Required Certificates:

RYA First Aid Certificate

RYA Powerboat Level 2 

RYA Safe and Fun Certificate and Pre-Course Work


Minimum Age:

16 years


Training Course:

It is run at the club using both the sea and the lake and the course is a full 50hrs of training run over 5 days.

Training in teaching techniques afloat and ashore is provided during the course. Run by an RYA Coach/Assessor and moderated on the final day by another RYA Coach/Assessor who has not been involved in the candidate's training. Candidates will be required to demonstrate competence in course preparation, delivery and management, as well as customer liaison.

 

Qualified To Teach:

Sailing Scheme Levels 1, 2 and 3, Day Sailing, Seamanship Skills and Sailing with Spinnakers (if suitably experienced and approved by the Principal or Chief Instructor) Youth Sailing Scheme Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4. Instructors are qualified specifically to teach on either dinghies, small keelboats or multihulls, depending on their training course and experience. Instructors are not assessed as competent in running a training centre, and should always work under the supervision of an RYA Senior instructor.


Validity:

Five years from the date of issue provided that a valid first aid certificate is maintained.
