Social Sailing At The Club
So what is social sailing all about? Firstly its not just for sailors the objectives of our social sailing activities over the last few years have been to develop confidence on the water for those who have just taken up any watersport and to provide focused activities other than racing. If you have just completed an RYA course, started paddleboarding or begun kayaking and want to move on from the lake to the sea these activities are for you. With the current restrictions it has not been possible to finalise things in the club programme, but if you have indicated an interest on your membership profile you will be kept up to date as the year progresses. Activities that are penciled in are both land based and water based. The land based sessions will be related to safety and what things you need to consider when heading out on the sea and will be followed by putting this knowledge into practice on the water. Other sessions in the past have been cruises out to Bulldog Sand buoy, to see the seals near the mouth of the Ouse, up to the revetment at Heacham for a picnic and just general handling skills on the water setting off and returning to the place you started are essential skills for sailing from the club!. The long cruises are accompanied by a safety boat and have an experienced leader. We recognise that not everyone wants to take to the water in their own craft and so we also aim to encourage those interested to learn how the Committee Boat operates and how to run races (once a race has started there is time for socialising and emptying the contents of your flask before you have to get busy again!) together with other aspects of sailing and water sports at the club. If you would like to be kept informed of events as and when they happen dont forget to mark this as an interest on your membership profile.
