RYA Assistant Instructor

RYA Assistant Instructor (£65 for full members)

Assistant Instructor Training and Role Description:

Snettisham Beach Sailing Club (The Club) is committed to the development of youth sailors, both of their personal sailing development and for the opportunity to train as Dinghy Instructors.  Where there is sufficient demand for a course The Club runs annual Assistant Instructor Training and arranges Dinghy Instructor training, in addition to supporting existing instructors within their role.

Assistant Instructor Training:

This training is coordinated by the Chief Instructor.  It includes a mixture of being taught about the role of an instructor, RYA methods and some on the job training working alongside a Chief Instructor.

Pre-requisites: Age 14 or over.  Have completed the Seamanship Advanced module.

Course Length: 20 hours (a combination of induction/theory session and on the job training which each student can arrange on the job training hours flexibly around their availability).

Assistant Instructor role:

The Role of an Assistant Instructor at Snettisham Beach Sailing Club is a voluntary, unpaid position. At Snettisham Beach Sailing Club we do not usually include assistant instructors in meeting instructor ratios.  AIs are there to support the session and enhance the quality of experience for course delivery, support Instructors on the water and gain personal experience that will help their progression and personal development for those wishing to continue training to become Dinghy Instructors.

There are rare occasions where an experienced Assistant Instructor may be asked to assist with a course and be counted in the staffing ratio for that session.  If this occurs then payment for the session will be agreed in advance of working those specific hours.

In recent years there has been a shortage of qualified Dinghy Instructors to fully staff our cadet week.  When this occurs assistant instructors may be approached ahead of cadet week to work as paid assistants for this week.  This is not required when there are enough instructors to meet the required instructor/student ratio.

If you are interested in becoming an Assistant Instructor please see the dates and times listed HERE
