Cadet Week
Tickets Will Be Available To Book for 2024
Cadet Week has always been very popular at the club and in 2020 we ran 2 smaller cadet weeks whilst still meeting the needs of our junior members.
In order to book places on cadet week, your club membership must have been paid for 2024 otherwise we will not be able to process your booking. If there are financial reasons why you haven't been able to renew your membership or if you need to set up a payment plan for membership or cadet week please contact us to discuss how we can help.
As always, our sessions are 3hrs long and you are booking 5 x 3-hour sessions. Parents must remain on-site at the club for the duration of the session. Alternative sailing-related activities are provided if there is adverse weather.

What group should I book my child into?
Here is some general guidance as to the standard of sailing we would like in each group. It may be that your child stays in one group for more than one year. The focus for cadet week is on enjoyment and fun on the water whilst building confidence, friendships and sailing skills. It isn't designed to follow a set syllabus or criteria but we do always see great improvement in our sailors as the week progresses.
These are the different groups that we operate for our cadet weeks and our kick-start week:
Novice: no experience needed
Bronze: approximately stage 2* standard, able to sail a shallow triangle
Silver: confident stage 2/3* sailor, able to sail upwind and downwind, know how to rig an Oppie and/or Topper, capsize and recover)
Gold: approximately stage 3*, some understanding of race controls & boat tuning, able to sail in most conditions, understanding of wind direction)
Diamond: Hybrid Gold/Sea group; meaning if the weather is good, they could sail on the sea but if a wind to strong move to the Lake (example: an experience of regular sailing & racing, able to right a Topper in most conditions, water confident, understand race controls & boat tuning but need more confidence on the Sea)
Sea Topper Race group: (example: an experience of regular sailing, some experience of racing, able to right a Topper in most conditions, water confident, understand race controls & boat tuning)
Double Handers (example: 12yrs - 16yrs been sailing in the Silver group previously but now too big for a Topper, want to think about becoming a future instructor and need double hander experience, already crew in a double hander and want to hone helming skills OR enjoy sailing and want company when racing)
*it is not essential to hold RYA Youth Sailing Scheme qualifications to take part in cadet week, they are for guidance only.
