Sailing:

It's the mid-summer weekend so there will be lots of daylight for travel to Norfolk, some Saturday night socialising, and travel home in daylight on Sunday. The club faces west across the Wash so when the sun shines, the sunsets are exceptional!

There should will be some high-quality racing it's 2019 National Champions Jasper and Laura Barnhams home club and many fleet front entries from all over the UK.  As usual, the boat park will be the font of all wisdom for setting up, tuning, tactics, boat handling etc. etc.; just ask your 2000 Friends.

Sailing at Snettisham Beach revolves around the tide times. High water times are:

09:40 am Saturday 10:30 am Sunday

Six races are planned and will be Three races each day.

The first race start on Saturday is scheduled for 08:10 am

Arrival:

If you are coming on Friday 17th afternoon/evening:

There are no gates or barriers at the club so arrive whenever you like. The postcode is PE31 7RB.

From the south take the A149. After the roundabout for Dersingham and before the roundabout for Snettisham turn left onto Beach Road. Proceed 1½  miles you will go over the flood defence bank. Continue to the forecourt of Snettisham Caravan Park, a big white Snettisham Caravan Park clubhouse confronts you. Go left across the forecourt leaving caravan park to the right. There an unmade road forks; go right leaving the lake on your left. Keep on this road. You should see boat masts of the Sailing Club ahead. Youve arrived.

NB there are many caravan parks on Beach Road; make sure you are looking for the correct one. If you haven't gone over the flood bank you haven't gone far enough.

At the club drive up over the sea bank onto the grass beach field. Park your boat on the right (north) side of the field. If you have a camper van park it on the right.

Accommodation:

If you are camping pitch your tent to the left (south) side to the south of the containers and amongst the parked dinghies or on the grass bank that abuts the beach.  Members are willing to accommodate visitors. Enquire by email to publicity.sbsc@gmail.com

Otherwise, this is a good place to look VisitWestNorfolk.com

TOP TIPS FOR CAMPERS:

The beach is shingle beneath the grass. A hammer is the best way to get pegs in the ground.

It's mid-summer so light very early, which wakes up the oyster catchers which make a lot of noise. Youll probably sleep better with an eye mask and earplugs.

Bar Opening times:

Friday:  6:00 pm onwards.

Saturday:  9:00 am then all day.

Sunday:  10:00 am onwards

Food:

Friday night: There is a club BBQ you may use if you bring your own food.

For local food we recommend: Snettisham Beach fish and chip shop which youll find just on the seaside of the flood bank, or the excellent Chinese restaurant: www.silkroadheacham.com / 01485 572268

Breakfast from the Club on Saturday and Sunday

Saturday Night: get stuck into the Commodores Mid Summer Quiz with a glass of Sharps Doom Bar, Stella Artois, Adnams Southwold Dry Hopped Lager, Bud Light, Aspall Cider, or a cocktail of the day. Wine is served in 4 sizes, small medium large and bottle. Our in-house professional catering has not re-started post lockdown. We are exploring whether we can lay on a Saturday evening meal for you.
