Push the Boat Out

Snettisham Beach Open Day Saturday 8th July 14.00 – 17.00hrs

Snettisham Beach Sailing Club is now entering its 78th season of sailing on the Wash. The club has gone from strength to strength and developments in recent years have seen it become the premier club on the Norfolk coast, with more training, racing and social sailing than ever in the 2017 season and a welcome that is second to none.

We are the only club to offer a training programme for adults and juniors that operates from April to October. In addition to being an accredited Royal Yachting Association (RYA) training centre we are also an RYA Champion Club, which recognises our commitment to deliver safe, effective race training and the ongoing development of our young sailors. We are regularly inspected and licensed by both the RYA and Adventure Activities Licensing Authority, recognising our good practice and safety management systems, providing one of the safest environments to start sailing at whatever age you are.

The Open Day, part of the national RYA Push the Boat Out activities, is an ideal opportunity for anyone, irrespective of age and experience, interested in sailing, to come and sample the facilities and opportunities offered by the club. There will be sailing on the lake and sea for both adults and juniors, supervised and supported by the staff from the training centre and club members, together with an all day barbecue. You need to wear shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting wet, all other specialist clothing and equipment will be provided. Come along and prepare to eat, drink and get wet!

We are unique amongst coastal clubs in having a non-tidal gravel pit on which to sail in addition to the open sea of the Wash. This means that beginners can start to sail in calm and safe environment of the lake, developing their confidence and skills, before moving to sailing and racing on the sea.

The Training Centre offers a full range of RYA sailing and related courses for complete beginners through to experienced sailors, including:

  • Stages 1 - 4 for 8 - 17 year olds

  • Levels 1 - 3 for 16+ year olds

  • Ladies only sailing groups

  • RYA Powerboat and Safety Boat courses

  • Instructor training

  • Private Tuition

If you are thinking of returning to sailing then the new season has regular Wednesday, Friday and weekend sailing on the sea, a programme of open meetings as well as junior and beginner sailing on the pit. Our fleet of club boats is second to none on the coast and the support offered within the main fleets for tuning, sailing and racing is a real strength. In addition we have a comprehensive social programme and excellent bar and catering facilities in the clubhouse.

This a club run by its members for its members and the support given to the club activities by volunteers is exceptional. Plans are in hand to develop and improve the club facilities even more and can be viewed on the expanded website please explore, which should be your first point of call for all club information.

We look forward to meeting you at Snettisham Beach Sailing Club on 8th July.
